An Elkridge woman cleaned up playing a $30 scratcher sold at Giant in Owings Mills that she turned into a $2 million jackpot.
A regular Lottery player, the winner said that she enjoys playing Mega Millions, Powerball, and a variety of scratch-off games, but it was the 200X the Cash ticket purchased at Giant on Mill Run Circle that set she and her husband up for retirement after spending decades as a custodian after coming to the US 25 years ago.
Her daughter, who joined her at Lottery Headquarters, said that she was given a scare when her mother called and was both excited and emotional, stating that she "thought she was in a car accident."
However, it was quickly debunked that the excitement was, in fact, driven by happiness, and a photo of the winning ticket and brief explanation uncovered that the uproar was due to the multi-million dollar win.
With the unexpected windfall of cash, the woman and her husband say they plan to start making retirement plans, stating that they want to get their finances in order and hope to retire within two years.
